Construction Of Shops And Offices Complex At Community 2, Tema, Greater Accra Region
A nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) exemplifies sustainability by minimizing energy consumption while generating on-site renewable energy to offset its needs. The building discussed here incorporates locally sourced materials and advanced design strategies to achieve high energy efficiency and environmental harmony.
The building features a 3 Storey Civic complex with innovative sustainable interventions featuring cavity wall made from compressed earth bricks and double-glazed low emission glazing. The building façade displays a reddish earth color that blends with the wooden monochrome tones of the sunscreen fins. The sunscreen fins act as sun shading device that stretches along the façade of the building acting like a “second skin”. Solar panel installations would be responsible for over 80% of its energy needs. Other energy efficient approaches include a central air-conditioning with the R290 refrigerant; known for its high energy efficiency without contributing to greenhouse gases. An Energy Management System is also responsible for monitoring and control of energy usage of the building. The external layout also features the perfect blend of green landscaping with trees and walkways made up of earth compressed bricks.
